是用疑問句的形式表達說話人態度、感情而無需回答的疑問句。
(1)形式
①一般疑問句的肯定形式(起否定陳述句的作用)
Do you think you have the right to talk to me like that?(你覺得你有權利跟我這樣說話?意思是你無權這麼做。)
Is that the reason for going there alone?(這就是你單獨去那兒的理由嗎?意思是這不能成為理由。)
②一般疑問句的否定形式(起肯定陳述句的作用)
Don’t you want to know what it is?(難道你就不想知道這是什麼東西嗎?意思是你肯定想知道。)
Haven’t you had enough of her complaints?(你還沒受夠她的抱怨嗎?意思是你已經受夠了。)
③特殊疑問句的肯定形式(相當於否定的陳述句)
Now that you’ve got a well?paid job,what else do you want?(你還要什麼?意思是你不應該再要求別的什麼了。)
What difference does it make?(那有什麼區別?意思是沒有區別。)
④特殊疑問句的否定形式(相當於肯定的陳述句)
Who doesn’t know?(誰不知道?意思是誰都知道了。)
Why don’t you quit? You can’t hold out!(你為什麼不罷手?你不可能堅持到底的!)
(2)用法
①表示驚訝、感嘆
Don’t you love your own parents?(你難道不愛自己的父母嗎?)
Isn’t that a lovely park?(那公園真美!)
②表示憤怒
How dare you speak to me like that?(你居然跟我這樣說話，太不像話了!)
Why don’t you shut up?(你給我閉嘴!)
③表示建議或委婉的批評、責備
Why don’t we have lunch in an eating place around here?
Can’t you come a bit early next time?
④表示邀請
Won’t you sit down and have a cup of tea?
