第一章 並列平行結構

1.I wanted her to know that my heart was with her,and that I thought England owed her a great debt and was going to miss her.
要 點:that my heartand that I thought為兩個並列賓語從句;owed her and was going 為兩個並列的謂語結構。
參考譯文：我想讓她知道我的心和她在一起，而且我認為英國欠了她一大筆債，很快就會懷念她。
2.And neither friends nor family can convince phobic people that most animals are harmless,that thousands of travelers fly safely every day,and millions of people ride safely in elevators several times each day.
要 點:neithernor連接並列主語。convince後接people作賓語，另外三個that從句並列作convince的賓語，其中最後一個 that從句前省略了that，若補齊即為millions of peopleeach day。
參考譯文：朋友們及家庭成員都無法說服恐懼症患者，使他們相信多數動物對人無害，數以千計的旅行者每日都安全飛行，數百萬的人每天都安全地乘好幾次電梯。

要 點：as well as為連接詞組，意為不但而且既又，在句中連接並列成分。還要注意as well as的用法與not onlybut also相同，但重點通常在as well as前面的部分。
參考譯文：不僅要複習你仍然混淆不清的地方，而且要重溫課堂上提到的要點。

1. We need to be taught the duty of planting trees as well as of cutting them.
